106: Wayward Daughter

Some parents are so afraid to oppose their rebellious children they have relegated themselves to the role of simply providing food and shelter for their rebellious teens.

Parents have a duty to teach their children that choices have consequences! The Bible teaches that sin has consequences, and parents need to model this truth with their children!

Wayward Daughter Rejects Parental Values, Wants Birth Control

Q: I just got some good advice from our Pastor & a few friends about our 17 year old daughter. Her 14 year old sister told us she plans to get birth control pills tomorrow. Her boyfriend she's been seeing for over a year is 18. We have raised her by the Bible and we know she knows this is wrong. We'd like some Godly advice from you folks as well. Thanks so much for this site!

 A: Dear Sister,

If your daughter is choosing to reject the values you've taught her then she should be willing to pay the price of her disobedience. I always reminded our children as they were growing up that we provided a home and a roof in obedience to God's commands. If they choose to disobey him we would require that they provide their own roof, since ours depended on their continued obedience and submission, both to God and to us.

Children must learn that every decision bears a consequence and it is a poor parent that shields their children from the results of their willful choices.

A hard line such as above should be accompanied by fervent prayer and fasting that God would bring repentance and obedience as well as an examination of your own life to see if there is any issue in your own walk that would cause a stumbling block to your children.

Our prayers are with you.
